Badwater Salton Sea
The BADWATER: Salton Sea route is approximately 81 miles from Salton City (elevation 125 feet below sea level) to Palomar Mountain, the tallest mountain in San Diego County (finish line elevation: 5500 feet above sea level.) There is a total elevation gain of 9000 feet. (Imagine the Badwater Ultramarathon race route, but delete the miles from the summit of Towne Pass to the Darwin Time Station: that is very much what this race profile looks like, not only in profile, but in reality!)
Eight of the 81 race miles pass through Anza-Borrego State Park on the California Riding and Hiking Trail from near Borrego Springs to near Ranchita, so, unlike the Badwater Ultramarathon, this race is not entirely on pavement. What's more, for much of the race, participants will run on the dirt shoulder next to the road, or an adjacent trail, so half or more of the distance will be on unpaved running surfaces.
I will be heading out with CrossFit Revenge coach and crew member Jordan Rouff,
meeting up with teammembers Russ Reinbolt, M.D., Nathan Longcrier, and his amazing wife Monica who will also be a crew member.
Thank you Laurie's Emeroidery for always getting us geared up right!!!
